Petunia exserta is a rare, wild annual petunia with striking bright red flowers. The petals are star-shaped, and the corolla protrudes, making it attractive to pollinating insects.
This plant fits perfectly in borders, hanging baskets or pots. It adds a unique, exotic look to any garden.
Sow the tiny seeds indoors in early spring. Use a seed mix and barely cover the seeds, as they need light to germinate. At a constant temperature of 20-25°C the seeds germinate within 7-14 days.
This petunia is native to Brazil and likes a sunny spot and well-drained, nutritious soil. It flowers profusely from late spring to autumn. More than other selections or hybrids of Petunia, this species needs a moist soil.
