Zaailatyrus of graserwt
Lathyrus Sativus
'Azureus'
Lathyrus Sativus 'Azureus' , or grass pea is also an edible lathyrus. With its light blue (azure) butterfly flowers with pink veins, this small climber also looks great in a flower border. The plant does not grow taller than 1m and has winged stems on which the flowers are planted separately. The peas are mainly used in the Mediterranean area for human consumption (dried peas, pea flour, ...) or cattle feed.
The plant also has the ability to absorb nitrogen from the air and retain it in its roots. For that reason, this plant can also be used as a green manure.
Soak the seeds overnight in a bowl of lukewarm water to promote germination. Sow them in pots in March/April in a cold greenhouse and plant them out in May. You can plant them close together because they are fragile looking plants.
It likes a moist (not wet) sunny spot and then it will certainly flower from May to June. But the lathyrus pea actually does well everywhere, because that is precisely the advantage of this plant.
